mise en place, creating culinary adventures especially for you

When you think about adventure, you think about taking risks, about pushing yourself to a new level, about experiencing things you never have before. Adventures involve an element of surprise and the excitement of conquering a new challenge. Adventures allow you to learn about new things, about yourself, and about others, in a way that is both unique and relevant to you.

mise en place (pronounced Meez ahn plahs) is a recreational cooking school, located in the heart of Denver's historical LoDo district that provides epicurean adventures that feed both the mind and soul.

Designed for those who have a passion for cooking but aren't professional chefs, mise en place creates one-of-a-kind experiences for its students.

mise en place is a French cooking term meaning "everything in its place." It is the organization and preparation of the ingredients of a meal that makes the execution of the meal more efficient and the cooking experience more enjoyable. Classes at mise en place engage students in every aspect of the art of cooking as if they were professional chefs. With the guidance of Denver's top Executive Chefs and Sommeliers, students learn to prepare ingredients, execute recipes, orchestrate a meal, and present their culinary creations. At the end of the evening, students share their signature dishes with each other and enjoy a well-earned meal together.

everyday is a culinary adventure!

Situated in a historic loft, mise en place is charming in its setting (see photos of our beautiful kitchen!). With exposed brick, wood beam ceilings and a comfy lounge area, the school exudes an atmosphere that is warm and inviting - making you feel as if you are preparing dinner in your own home. It is these surroundings that create an environment for learning that is both relaxed and engaging.

mise en place is a delicious way to socialize and team-build with others who share your same passions! We don't offer culinary degrees or certification programs. We offer insight into the brilliant culinary minds of Denver! No experience is necessary!  Classes are provided for the novice cook through the "closet-wanna-be-chef".

mise en place classes are offered as:

  • Hands On Classeshands-on classes: Be more fully engaged in the learning experience, all without having to clean the kitchen!
  •
  • Chef lead classeschef / instructor led demonstration classes: Sit back and relax, learn from the chef and eat the fruits of their labor!

In addition to cooking classes, mise en place offers:

what do you need to bring to class?

mise en place will provide everything you need from aprons, to knives, cutting boards, sushi rolling mats, you name it! While the majority of our classes are hands-on classes, you will find that you generally end up with a four-course meal which our staff serves to you. As such, we operate on the same basis as a restaurant with the serving, clearing, and clean-up done by our staff.

Please be aware that a 18-22% tip is appropriate on both the cost of the class and any beverages consumed the evening of the event.

the chatterbox...

"The feedback from our team was overwhelmingly positive. Paula took great effort to create an event that reinforced the lessons of other teaming sessions and incorporating new themes relevant to our current challenges. Chefs Markus Georg and Rachel Woolcott are top notch talents, and, along with Paula’s extremely helpful and competent staff, extracted a level of creativity from our team that surprised everyone that attended. All in all, an unqualified success!"
